Utah ranks first in the nation in utilizing technology to provide services to citizens, Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. announced.

The Center for Digital Government conducts a survey of states every two years. In 2004, Utah ranked eighth among the states, and in 2006, it reached fourth place.

"This top ranking is a reflection of our state's innovative and talented leadership that continues to bring Utah to the forefront of providing greater accessibility to government services through technology," Huntsman said in a statement.

The governor said his new four-day work week for the state's executive branch employees has created an increased awareness of the more than 800 government services available online.

The 2008 survey was one of the most competitive ever, said Paul Taylor, the center's chief strategy officer and a member of the judging panel. Taylor said Utah stood out because of its commitment to ensuring online services meet the needs of businesses and individuals.
