"It was amazing being on the tour with a legendary band like Motley Crue," he said. "And to be a part of it with Buckcherry and Papa Roach was great.

"The downside was the fact that we ended up playing at 5 p.m.," Montgomery said. "That meant we were the ones that people usually missed. We had the tailgaters in the parking lot wandering in toward the end of our set and those who did want to see us were stuck in traffic somewhere.

"But it was good for us to be there."

Trapt — Montgomery, vocalist/guitarist Chris Brown, lead guitarist Robb Torres and bassist Peter Charell — released a new studio CD, "Only Through the Pain," last month.

"We took a bit longer on this one than the last one ("Someone in Control")," Montgomery said. "When we looked back and saw how that album panned out, it was considered a flop, beyond our control."

Even taking in consideration that "Someone in Control" reached No. 14 on the charts and sold more than 500,000 copies, the album wasn't a successful follow-up to the band's 2002 self-titled debut that sold more than 1 million copies, Montgomery said.

"So, we decided to write songs for the new album that we were going to write songs that are totally different from what we are used to doing," Montgomery said. "And that also carries on to the fact that we want to make a career of making music. We don't want to fall victim to the ups and downs of what is hot and not. So, that's were our focus is now."
