The Fillmore Ranger District will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Horse Hollow area of Fishlake National Forest, starting the first week of October and continuing through December, U.S. Forest Service officials said Friday.

Some nearby communities and residents may be affected for short periods of time, and burn dates will be determined by weather conditions.

The so-called Horse Hollow Hazardous Fuels Reduction project encompasses about 2,700 acres within the Center Fork Chalk Creek Grazing Allotment. The Forest Service's goal is to reduce potential negative effects from future catastrophic wildland fires, to improve the area for grazing livestock and wildlife and to regenerate quaking aspen.
