Lights coming back on after storm, but 1,500 customers still without power
As of 4:30 this afternoon, there were approximately 1,500 customers in Utah without power, said Rocky Mountain spokesman Jeff Hymas. About 1,350 of those outages were in the Salt Lake valley, including a pocket of 314 homes and businesses in the downtown area. Another 150 were in Weber County, mainly Huntsville and Ogden, he said.
Officials expect power to be restored to all customers by 9 p.m.
Tree branches being blown into power lines and high winds were the causes for most of the problems.
At the height of the outages, there were about 26,000 customers without power in Utah, Hymas said. That was at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The storm also caused outages in southeast Idaho and the southwestern portion of Wyoming, he said.
When the storm hit, Draper residents in an area where a recent wildfire denuded the hillsides were bracing for the worst, but there ultimately was no flooding damage reported at any homes overnight in the Corner Canyon area.
Residents filled sandbags and Draper's Emergency Operations Center was activated. Reverse 911 calls were made, alerting homeowners to be prepared for a possible evacuation.
By 12:30 a.m., however, the EOC was allowed to close and no evacuations were ever made.
