High school football: T-Wolves grab last-gasp win over Wolverines
With the game tied at 16 and only 1:27 remaining, Brown drove the T-Wolves 54 yards to the 7-yard line, where he faked a pass into the end zone and then ran it around the left side for the game-winning touchdown.
"It's a great confidence boost for us," said coach Brad Molen. "Our offense has struggled for two games and to be able to take it down in a two-minute drill and finish it off with a touchdown is going to be a big confidence boost for our offense and for our whole team."
Brown's role in the T-Wolves' win was even more remarkable considering that Brooks Fowler was slated to play quarterback all week until injuring his thumb yesterday.
"I felt bad for him because we moved him out to receiver this week," said Molen. "He didn't get one rep in practice all week long. Then Brooks (Fowler) breaks his thumb yesterday taking some reps in the JV game, then all of a sudden I have to go to Parker and say, 'You've got it back again.' So for not having any reps all week, I thought he did a good job."
Hunter had taken the lead at 16-13 with 3:55 remaining when Dallin Lund capped a 55-yard drive with a 27-yard field goal.
The T-Wolves came up big defensively as they forced Hunter to punt despite a 19-yard run on first down by Equasi Tavo. That defensive stop led to Brown's heroics on the final drive.
Hunter actually had one final chance following Brown's touchdown when Tavo returned the kickoff to the Timpanogos 42 with only two seconds to play. But Brett Lunceford's pass on the final play of the game was batted down by the Timpanogos defenders.
At halftime, Timpanogos led 10-3, but Tavo faked a punt midway through the third quarter and scrambled 60 yards for the touchdown to tie the game at 10.
