NOTE: The Deseret News top 25 is based on voting by our prep football writers. Total points are based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote.

1. Alta (1-0) Class: 5A

Was: 1. Points: 298. Last week: Beat Spanish Fork, 42-6.

Outlook: These days, nothing else compares to the Bingham-Alta football rivalry, and a mammoth crowd should be on hand at Alta High this Friday. Next up: vs. Bingham, Friday.

2. Timpview (1-0) Class: 4A

Was: 3. Points: 284. Last week: Beat Pleasant Grove, 10-6.

Outlook: You could've made a convincing argument for Timpview to be ranked No. 1 heading into the season, but it's a little harder to make the case after the T-Birds were forced to grind out a nail-biting win over Pleasant Grove. Next up: vs. Spanish Fork, Friday
