Man shot in W.V. store parking lot
WEST VALLEY CITY A man was shot several times inside a car at a Smith's parking lot here late Wednesday.
About 10 p.m., police received a call about a man who was walking on the sidewalk and who appeared to be bleeding heavily, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.
When police arrived the man was gone, but officers later received a call from Pioneer Memorial Hospital that a 27-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen had been admitted, he said.
Officers discovered that the victim met some acquaintances at a Smith's grocery store near 4700 South and 4000 West and got into a vehicle with them. At some point an argument ensued, and the man was shot several times, McLachlan said.
After he was kicked out of the car, he started walking toward the hospital. The man had a cell phone and called some friends to pick him up. They found him before police and dropped him off at the hospital, McLachlan said.
Anyone who saw anything at the store or has information about the shooting can call police at 840-4000.
