Former County Recorder Katie Dixon dies
Mrs. Dixon served for 20 years as the county recorder, and she made a mark in pioneering programs for women and children.
The day care at the Salt Lake County Government Center would not be open today, had she not stormed into a county commission meeting years ago and convinced the commission to provide funding.
She said, "People work better when they are not worried about their kids," according to Mrs. Dixon's obituary.
Salt Lake County Councilman and former commissioner Jim Bradley said Mrs. Dixon was a woman of "grace and stature" who was a "tremendous asset to our community.
"She had a good and thoughtful position, never politically motivated but always community minded," said Bradley, a Democrat.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry, Mike and Todd, and her only daughter, D'Arcy Dixon Pignanelli, who serves on the Utah Tax Commission.
Family and friends are invited to a "Celebration of Life" Thursday at the Alta Club, 100 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
