A food-lover's silent auction offers items such as cooking classes, autographed cook books, food tours and food gifts. Proceeds will fund Slow Food Utah's Food Artisan Micro Grant program. National S'mores Day is Sunday, and The Hershey Co. is offering a s'mores recipes to celebrate, at www.smoresfun.com. Variations on the traditional s'more include Chocolate Banana S'mores with small slices of banana, and Peanutty S'mores with a thin layer of peanut butter spread on graham cracker.
Ferragosto Italian festival takes place Aug. 16, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at 300 S. 450 West. The public can enjoy Italian cuisine and drinks while being entertained with Italian food booths, bocce ball tournament, live music, dancing, arts and crafts, Italian cars and motor scooters. A Colosimo's sausage-eating contest takes place at 4 p.m. (Italian CenterUtah.com).
The Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City and Bambara restaurant will co-host the fourth annual "A Park in Paris" picnic to benefit The Trust for Public Land, a national nonprofit land conservation organization on Tuesday, 5 7 p.m., at 15 W. 200 South. The hotel Monaco will transform its Paris Ballroom into a "city of lights" park, with food, fun, games and music. A suggested donation of $20 is welcome at the door. Make reservations at Reline. Dairy Queen is sponsoring a Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, with the sale of every DQ Blizzard treat benefitting the Children's Miracle Network. Last year's inaugural event raised $3.3 million in one day.
