Salt Lake City officials are seeking to educate residents about city financing and how services are funded. They will sponsor an information session at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 326, Salt Lake City-County building, 451 S. State.

Members of the city's budget team will address municipal government and taxation issues proposed in the fiscal year 2008-09 budget. The city faced the largest budget gap in its history this year.

Budget planners made the decision to receive the same amount of property taxes in 2008-09 as the city did in 2007-08, which was greater than originally projected.

The information session precedes a Truth in Taxation hearing planned for Aug. 12. The hearing is required by Utah law when a taxing entity proposes to collect more revenue than was budgeted for the previous year.
