Choir of Kenyan orphans to sing at InHarmony festival

The Singing Children of Africa, made up of orphans from Kenya, will be among the international choirs that will take part in this year's InHarmony 2008 children's music festival.

The weeklong festival will run Monday through Sunday at various venues from Salt Lake City, American Fork, Orem and Provo.

In addition to the Singing Children of Africa, choirs from other countries including Japan, Nepal and the United States will participate in various concerts in Salt Lake City and Utah County.

InHarmony 2008 is presented by Reaching the Summit, whose goal is to "bring people together through shared experiences to build a global community of understanding and friendship."

In addition to the performances, the 500 singers will attend various workshops that will be held at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. They will also visit Sundance, the Heber Creeper, Utah Olympic Park and attend a rehearsal of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The performance schedule for this year's InHarmony 2008 festival is as follows (not all choirs will perform at all venues):

Monday — Opening concert with guests Jon Schmidt, Jenny Oaks Baker, Sojourn dance, Angela Winston, the Dance Club, the Music School, April Meservy, Daron Bradford and the One Voice Children's Choir, Thanksgiving Point, 7:30 p.m., tickets are $8 to $20 at the door or www.thanksgivingpoint.com

Tuesday — American Fork Amphitheater, 6 p.m., free

Wednesday — Salt Lake County Fair, 5 p.m., free with fair admission; Lindon City Park, 7 p.m., free; Salt Lake City Library, 7:30 p.m., free

Thursday — Lindon City Park, 7:30 p.m., free; TBA, Orem, 7 p.m., free

Friday — Franklin Covey Field, Bee's game national anthem, 7 p.m., game admission; Parkway Crossing Stadium, Orem Owlz game national anthem, 7 p.m., game admission

Saturday — Lindon Parade, 10 a.m., free; Salem Parade, 10:30 a.m., free; closing concert, Cottonwood High School, 6 p.m., $5 at the door
