From Deseret News archives:
Murray Idol goes to the next round
Loren Allred, who was named Murray Idol this past spring, made it through to the next round of the "American Idol" competition.
"I was just so overwhelmed. I was a jumping bean," Allred said after she exited the EnergySolutions Arena Tuesday.
(Allred and fellow auditioner Jeanette Greenlee were profiled in Tuesday's Deseret News.)
When she arrived at the arena about 5 a.m., Allred was "sleepy and nervous." And she had no idea that, as the reigning Murray Idol, she would be one of the first to audition. "And every single judge crowded around" as she performed "Listen" from the musical "Dreamgirls."
"I was so nervous, but they really liked it" Allred said.
Although they made her sweat. "They actually started joking with me. They were, like, 'I don't know how to tell you this,' and I thought I was out," she said. "And then they were, like, 'Oh, we're totally just kidding. Of course you got in.'
"I was really just overwhelmed and excited."
The Deseret News, not wishing to in any way endanger her status with the show, is respecting that prohibition.
