Viper joyride lands Spanish Fork man in jail
Lindon officers spotted a yellow Dodge Viper spinning its tires at a stoplight Monday. The officer saw the Viper head west on 700 North toward Geneva Rd. and asked for assistance from another officer who was the intersection of the two streets. The second officer attempted to stop the Viper using lights and sirens near 1100 W. 700 North, according to an affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
The driver passed another vehicle and speeded up, running two red lights before turning onto I-15 southbound. The suspect turned off his headlights and officers ended pursuit of the vehicle after losing sight of the car, according to the affidavit.
Later on, Utah County sheriff's deputies contacted Lindon police to say they had the suspect in custody and that he had admitted to the high-speed incident with his Viper. He told police he drove 150 mph on I-15 and that he exited at 1600 North and proceeded to the industrial area to hide his car before getting a ride back to Spanish Fork, according to the affidavit.
