EAGLE MOUNTAIN — Police arrested a 38-year-old man Wednesday after he allegedly tried to kill his estranged wife and her boyfriend in front of their children.

Utah County sheriff's deputies arrived at a house on Kennekuk Circle in Eagle Mountain to check out a report of family problems. According to a police affidavit, the officers saw two girls run from the house, screaming, "He killed my mom."

Officers entered the house and found a man holding two large knives. They quickly secured him and found a woman, the man's estranged wife, and her boyfriend locked in the master bathroom. The woman told officers that the man threatened to kill her, her boyfriend and himself in front of their children. There were five children, ages 4 to 11, in the home at the time.

The woman told police the man kept calling for the children to come into the master bedroom to watch him kill them. The officers soon discovered the woman had a valid protective order against her estranged husband.

The man was booked into Utah County Jail for investigation of attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, violation of a protective order, domestic violence in the presence of a children and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $50,000.
