Parents responsible for tagging

Everyone should be thrilled when they hear news coverage of kids who get busted for tagging private or public property with graffiti. Hats off to the Provo police officers in the latest arrests. Unfortunately, most of those caught simply go to court, receive a stern lecture and are sent home with their parents. What if the parents of repeat offenders were ordered to accompany the culprits on the days that they are forced to clean up the graffiti and were obligated to assist in the cleanup themselves?

Somehow I feel that having to spend a few of their weekends in the removal of this trash might be far more deplorable than having to simply fork over a few dollars. Why shouldn't the parents shoulder the responsibility for the tagging of property?
