Geologic hazard data for Wasatch Front urban areas can now be purchased in CD format by anyone interested in knowing which spots are at higher risk during an earthquake or more prone to flooding or landslides.

Known as Circular 106, the CD was developed by the Utah Geological Survey, which targeted urban parts of Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah, Wasatch and Weber counties. The Utah Division of Homeland Security provided funding for creation of Circular 106.

Though deciphering the CD's information requires skills with Geographic Information System (GIS) software, intended users of the CD include state and local governments, homeowners, homebuyers and real estate agents.

Utah Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Tammy Kikuchi said Circular 106 will help implement the 2008 Legislature's HB177, which defines a development approval process that includes studying geologic-hazard areas shown on maps in the CD's database. The CD is $25 and can be purchased at the Natural Resources Map and Bookstore, 1594 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City. For more information call 801-537-3320.
