Davis County Health officials are reminding people to be careful with untreated water.

While most people know they shouldn't drink water from rivers, reservoirs and lakes, many probably don't know that secondary tap water isn't treated and can be a source of bacteria and disease, according to health department director Lewis Garrett.

Many property owners in the county buy and use secondary water for irrigation. That's also true in other counties.

People should wash with soap and water from a treated source after contact with secondary water, and children should not play in sprinklers, wading pools or drink from hoses that come from a secondary source.
