OREM — Police have arrested a woman they say used her position at Kmart and a forged check to get nearly $25,000 in gift cards.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested after police were called to the Orem store at 475 N. State to investigate a theft, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in 4th District Court.

The woman used a forged check to purchase $25,000 in gift cards, one of which she used at the store, while she left the rest at home, according to the affidavit.

During police interviews, the woman admitted to forging the check and changing the payee name and date but not the dollar amount, according to the affidavit.

She said she knew she shouldn't be doing it but told police that her father had given her the check and threatened to kill her if she didn't send him the gift cards, according to the affidavit.

She was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of forgery and theft on $1,000 cash or bond bail.
