ADMINISTRATION: Kent Stanley has joined Utah State as senior associate athletics director for development. Stanley will officially begin his duties at USU on Aug. 4. He will be responsible for the overall administration, management and supervision of athletic development and fundraising efforts, and associated personnel for the athletics department, said director of athletics Scott Barnes. Stanley will also focus on planning and executing capital and annual fund initiatives for athletics in conjunction with the University foundation, Prior to joining Utah State, Stanley spent two years as the director of athletics at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.

"Combining both programs under one coaching staff will allow our coaches to more specifically address the needs of our student- athletes," Holmoe said. Powers, entering his 34th season, will be assisted by women's coach Stan Crump, who will serve as associate head coach as will diving coach Keith Russell . New to the staff is assistant coach John Brooks, who coached the UNLV men's and women's teams. Powers will add one more assistant coach later.
SOCCER: At Provo, the Cougars (7-6-2) fell 2-0 Friday against the Vancouver Whitecaps (11-3-1), the PDL's Northwest Division first-place team. The Whitecaps scored in the 16th minute. and 90th minutes. BYU will play the Abbotsford Mariners tonight in Provo for their last game of the season. The game will start at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on BYU-TV and re-broadcast at 10 p.m. on KBYU (Ch. 11),
Southern Utah
SOFTBALL: Jodi Hermanek, Southern Utah University's softball coach for the past four seasons, has resigned to take a similar position at Ohio University in Athens. Hermanek coached the Thunderbirds to two regular-season and two postseason conference championships as well as to SUU's first two appearances in the NCAA Softball tournament and the team's first NCAA tournament win. Over her four years at SUU, Hermanek compiled a record of 107-122-1.
