PROVO — Nearly three weeks after being shot during a traffic stop, Lehi Police Capt. Harold Terry was released from the hospital Saturday.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Janet Frank Wednesday confirmed Terry's Saturday discharge from the hospital. While Frank wasn't certain of Terry's condition upon release, she said they don't send patients home unless they are ready.

On June 23 an employee at a gas station in Lehi phoned police to report a driver who seemed confused and possibly impaired. Terry responded to the call and stopped the driver of the car, 39-year-old Kelly Wark of Washington, a short distance from the gas station.

While conversing with Terry, Wark pulled out a .38-caliber handgun and shot the officer twice. Additional Lehi officers responding as backup fatally shot Wark when she turned toward them after exiting her vehicle.

Terry, who was shot twice above his left ear, was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter where he underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from his head. He remained in intensive care for some time and underwent therapy before his release.

After the shooting, Wark's family in Washington revealed that she had a struggled through a long history of mental illness.
