FARMINGTON — Sentencing has been delayed for a man convicted of providing the gun that David Edward Drommond Jr. used to kill his ex-wife in front of their children.

Rian Steven Carlson, 23, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempted possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and was due to be sentenced in 2nd District Court last week.. Davis County prosecutors said the sentencing was continued, but Carlson was taken into custody and booked into jail on a probation violation.

According to an arrest warrant filed with the original criminal charges in 2005, Carlson paid a friend about $160 for a 9 mm handgun. Carlson testified in court that he purchased the gun at Drommond's request. Drommond was his roommate at the time.

Drommond, 32, is serving life without parole in the Utah State Prison for the August 2005 death of Janeil Bradley, 29. She was shot when she showed up to Drommond's Bountiful home to drop off their two children for a visit. Her father-in-law, who accompanied her, was shot and wounded after he tried to wrestle the gun away from Drommond.

Drommond pleaded guilty last year to aggravated murder. In exchange, prosecutors dropped charges of attempted murder and violation of a protective order. He previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and his family has said Drommond suffered from mental illness.

Carlson is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 18.
