Utahns takes 2nd in Senior Open qualifying

Jeff Thomsen, a Boise, professional, outlasted Utahn Mike Borich in a playoff to earn the sole spot in the U.S. Senior Open qualifying Monday at Ogden Golf and Country Club.

Thomsen and Borich each shot 4-under par 68s for low honors in a field of 30 players. They both parred the first playoff hole and then they both birdied two and three. Thomsen snuggled a chip shot to within 4 feet of the pin on the fourth playoff hole for another birdie, and Borich missed his birdie effort.

Dan Forsman, playing in his first senior event, shot a 2-under par 70 and is the second alternate.
