LAYTON — A group of kids are believed to have started a small brush fire here that burned about three acres.

Firefighters driving by the area near 940 East and U.S. 193 spotted smoke and pulled over to fight the fire.

"It came within 10 feet of some businesses," said Layton Fire Marshal Dean Hunt. "We had flames about 30-feet high."

The fire also burned close to a mobile home community and knocked out cable TV service to the area. Hunt said investigators plan to question witnesses, in hopes of identifying a group of youths seen running from the area.
