VOLLEYBALL: Former BYU women's volleyball standout and two-time All-American Chelsea Goodman has been nominated by the Mountain West Conference for the 18th annual NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes in their senior year of academic eligibility for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics.
Goodman played for the Cougars from 2004-07 as an outside hitter. She finished her career ranked seventh all-time in program history in career kills (1,493), fifth in career kills per game (3.92) and sixth in career digs.
Utah
SWIMMING: Future Ute swimmer Whitney Lopus closed out the 2008 Olympic Trials with a pair of solid finishes. Her best finish of the trials came in the 200 fly preliminaries, placing 24th in 2:13.61. She also was tied for 90th in the 100 free prelims in 57.82.
Both Lopus and fellow newcomer Hannah Caron competed in several events during the trials in Omaha, Neb.
Utah State
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah State women's head basketball coach Raegan Pebley announced Thursday the hiring of Astou Ndiaye-Diatta as an assistant for USU.
Ndiaye-Diatta brings eight years of professional playing experience with her to Utah State after spending the 2007 season playing with the Seattle Storm. She was drafted to the WNBA in 2001 by the Detroit Shock in the second round and was the 22nd pick overall. She played for the Shock, Storm, Indiana Fever and Houston Comets.
