A fuel spill closed three lanes of southbound I-15 for most of Monday afternoon.

About 1:30 p.m., debris punctured a semitrailer's fuel tank near 7500 South and a large amount of fuel spilled on the road until the driver pulled off the freeway near 9000 South, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

Three lanes of traffic were closed until about 4 p.m. while crews used sand to clean up the mess, he said. The closure backed up traffic past 4500 South.
