A Piper Cherokee plane crashed in a remote area of Carbon County about 12:40 p.m. Monday, but when rescuers got to the scene, they could not find any people.

"There are personnel on the scene where the crash happened, but nobody's there," said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden.

Some individuals were taken by a medical flight to the University of Utah Medical Center, but details surrounding both the plane crash and the medical flight were sketchy late Monday afternoon, Roden said.

"We are trying to confirm whether the people they took were the people from this crash or not," he said.

The plane went down about 40 miles east of Price in an area not far from the Green River. The crash did create "a bit of a fire, but to what extent, I'm not sure," Roden said.

Carbon County search and rescue workers were still combing the area as of late Monday afternoon. No other details were available as of press time.
