FARMINGTON — A formal charge of negligent homicide has been filed against the mother of a 5-month-old Clearfield boy who died after being left in a sweltering hot car.

Kamilyn Hadley, 31, was charged Thursday afternoon with the class A misdemeanor in connection with the death of her son, Daniel Scott Hadley. Court records said the case was assigned to a 2nd District Court judge, but no hearings had been scheduled.

Hadley is expected to be issued a summons to appear in court. Davis County prosecutors have said they are working with her defense attorney to reach a resolution in the case and had no plans to recommend jail time if she is convicted.

Police said Daniel Scott Hadley was left in a car on June 17 while his mother was inside a Layton home visiting a friend. When she came out a couple of hours later, police said she discovered the unresponsive boy. After trying to cool him down, she eventually drove him to Davis Hospital. He died a few days later.

Temperatures in Layton were about 89 degrees at the time. Inside the car, experts have said it would have been approximately 120 degrees.

The case prompted a flurry of calls to the Davis County Attorney's Office about the possibility of charging Hadley. Some callers demanded "justice for the baby," while others said the mother was suffering enough. Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings said public input played no role in his decision to charge the mother.
