Salt Lake woman shot by boyfriend
The woman was on a bed in the apartment, nears 750 North 900 West, with a gun next to her, said Salt Lake police detective Jeff Bedard. Her boyfriend picked up the single action semi-automatic weapon which discharged, striking the woman in the stomach, he said. The bullet lodged in the woman close to her spine, Bedard said.
The boyfriend and another man who was in the apartment drove the woman to the emergency room of a local hospital, dropped her off and then left. Doctors called police who were able to trace the men back to the apartment complex, Bedard said.
Corey Morrison, 18, was spotted walking outside and arrested. The boyfriend, 19-year-old Luke Jensen, was also located and arrested. Both were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of possession of a stolen firearm. Jensen received an additional booking charge of possession of a firearm by a restricted person. Charges related to the actual shooting were still being considered Thursday.
The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was found on top of a carport where investigators believe the suspects tried to hide it.
