A total of 88 percent of Utah's Class of 2007 graduated from high school, according to data compiled by the State Office of Education and released today.

Eleven high schools had 100 percent graduation for 2007, according to the data.

The data collection is the first of its kind for Utah and more accurate than previous graduation rate tracking devices, according to Judy Park, USOE associate superintendent for data, assessment and accountability. Students were each assigned a number and have been tracked since their sophomore year. Students who may have moved to a different school or district in the state were followed.

"It allows us to absolutely track students from one year to the next," she said.

The data were gathered by schools and districts and then sent to USOE to compile.

Park said an 88 percent statewide graduation rate is quite good when looking at national numbers.

However, Utah's data do show a racial achievement gap. Hispanic students had a 72 percent graduation rate while Asian children had 91 percent and Caucasian kids had 90 percent.

Other factors can come into play with graduation rates. Children with limited English proficiency had a 75 percent graduation rate. Economically disadvantaged students, as well as those with disabilities, had a 77 percent graduation rate, according to the data.

The data can be broken down by district — some of which vary greatly in enrollment numbers as well as socioeconomic status.

Daggett School District, with one high school of 70 students, had 100 percent graduates.

Alpine School District had 93 percent; Davis School District had 92 percent; Granite School District had 89 percent; Iron County School District had 89 percent; Jordan School District had 84 percent; and Salt Lake District had 80 percent.

Ogden School District, with its socioeconomic challenges, had a 63 percent graduation rate.

The high schools that had 100 percent graduation rates are:

• Dugway High School
• Enterprise High School
• Green River High School
• Hartvigsen School
• Itineris Early College High School
• Manila High School
• Piute High School
• Rich High School
• Skyline High School
• Utah County Academy of Sciences Charter school
• Valley High School
