MT. PLEASANT, Sanpete County — A girl died in a weekend ATV accident when she and another girl rolled off a mountainside and into a fast-moving creek.

The crash happened June 28, the Sanpete County Sheriff's Office said. Two girls were riding an ATV in Pleasant Creek Canyon when their four-wheeler drove off the roadway and down a 30-foot hill into a creek.

"One of the girls was partially trapped under the four wheeler in the water. She was able to free herself from underneath the four wheeler and was taken to Sanpete Valley Hospital for treatment," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The driver of the four wheeler was washed downstream by the fast current of the creek."

The sheriff's office refused to release the names, ages or hometowns of the girls involved in the crash.
