'One Tree Hill' cliffhanger spoiled?
When last we saw the denizens of The CW's "One Tree Hill," it was season finale/cliffhanger time. And one of the dangling plotlines involved the Peyton-Brooke-Lindsey-Lucas quadrangle.
Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) phoned one of those three women. And then he asked the unseen female on the other end of the line to meet him in Las Vegas, where they'd get married.
(I said it was a cliffhanger. I didn't say it was a GOOD cliffhanger.)
Apparently, it might still be Peyton (Hilarie Burton) or Brooke (Sophia Bush). But it probably won't be Lindsey (Michaela McManus), because the actress is leaving "One Tree Hill" for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
McManus will play the new assistant district attorney on "SVU," and no matter what they cook up on that show it couldn't possibly be half as crazy as the baloney they serve on "One Tree Hill."
It is, of course, still possible that Lucas called Lindsey. That would be really lame ... but, again, this is "One Tree Hill" we're talking about.
MORE "PASSWORD": There's no surprise here, but CBS has doubled its order of "Million Dollar Password" episodes from six to 12.
The show has done very nicely in the ratings. According to the network, in its first four airings "Password" has finished first in total viewers each time and first in the advertiser-coveted demographics of 18-49 and 25-54 three times.
And it's fun to watch.
MORE "CAMP ROCK": In other unsurprising news, the Disney Channel has already announced that it will produce a sequel to "Camp Rock," which debuted last week to great ratings.
Not "High School Musical"-size ratings, but nice numbers nonetheless.
The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato are all expected to return when the sequel goes into production sometime in 2009.
By the way, both the Jonas Brothers (Joe, Kevin and Nick) and Lovato have TV series headed for the Disney Channel, too. The boys' is tentatively titled "J.O.N.A.S."; Lovato's is "Welcome to Mollywood."
THE CW ANNOUNCED some significant changes to one of its new shows, months before it's scheduled to debut.
"Surviving the Filthy Rich" has a new title the more manageable "Privileged."
And Marsha Mason is out and Anne Archer is in as the wealthy grandmother of two teen girls.
The show is about a young woman (Joanna Garcia of "Reba") hired as the 16-year-old twins' private tutor. Their grandmother is raising them after their parents were killed in a plane crash.
I'm hopeful about this show because the show-running executive producer is Rina Mimoun, who did great work on "Everwood."
QUOTABLE: "Late Night" host Conan O'Brien:
"Today at the U.S. Open, 32-year-old Tiger Woods came back to beat 45-year-old Rocco Mediate. When he heard that a younger African-American beat an older white man, John McCain said, 'Uh-oh."'
