BYU
ACADEMICS: The Mountain West Conference named 506 MWC Scholar Athletes for 2007-08. Leading the conference was BYU with 117 receiving the recognition. Eligibility requires the student-athletes to have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition for their athletic team.
BASKETBALL: Season tickets for the 2008-09 BYU men's basketball season are on sale now at the Marriott Center Ticket Office (800-322-BYU1 or 801-422-BYU1, hours 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) or online at BYUtickets.com. Students can purchase an All-Sport Pass for $95 to gain access to all BYU sporting events, including BYU football and basketball. BYU All-Sport Passes will go on sale online starting Aug. 1.
Utah
SWIMMING: Incoming swimmers Whitney Lopus and Hannah Caron will compete at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, held June 29 through July 6 in Omaha, Neb. Lopus will be competing in the 100 and 200 fly, the 100, 200 and 400 free, as well as the 200 IM. Caron will compete in the 100 fly and 200 IM.
ACADEMICS: Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards were conferred on 64 Utes by the conference office. Both of Utah's track and field and football teams saw a school-best nine recognized.
Utah State
VOLLEYBALL: Head volleyball coach Grayson DuBose announced Monday that Shantell Durrant has joined the program and will begin competing for the Aggies this fall. The 6-2 middle blocker will have three years of remaining eligibility at USU. Durrant, a native of American Fork, spent the past two years as a member of the nationally ranked University of Washington volleyball team.
Utah Valley
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Utah Valley women's soccer coach Brent Anderson has announced the 2008 schedule that features eight home games and five United Soccer Conference (USC) regular season matches. The Wolverines, who return all 11 starters from last season's USC tournament champion squad, will play exhibition games against Dixie State and Weber State.
