Crime spree ends with crash into Ogden home
Police first became involved about 2:40 a.m. today, when a burglar alarm went off at the El Monte Golf Course. A cash register, safe and some electronic equipment had been taken, police said. A golf course employee called the golf pro, who arrived on the scene as the suspected thieves were leaving.
"He gave chase in his private vehicle," Ogden Police Lt. Scott Sangberg told the Deseret News.
The chase went down Canyon Road, where the teens lost control of the car on the winding road and plowed into a home.
"They buried the car about three-fourths of the way into the house," Sangberg said.
No one was injured. The home sustained major damage and the people living inside are now homeless, police said. The American Red Cross was called in to provide support for them.
Meanwhile, police said they have tied the teens to a series of crimes starting in Davis County. Sangberg said the 16- and 17-year-olds from the West Point area stole burglary tools from a Wal Mart store in Clinton and tried to break into an auto repair shop in Syracuse.
The teens were all booked into the Weber Valley Detention Center on investigation of numerous felonies.
