Mike Weir faded on the back nine Sunday and finished in a tie for 20th place at the U.S. Open golf championship at Torrey Pines.

The Draper resident shot a 74 to finish at 6-over-par 290. It marked the seventh time in the past 10 years that Weir has finished in the top 20 and matched his tie for 20th place last year.

Weir made the turn at even par after sinking an 8-foot putt at the ninth hole. At the time, he was just five shots off the lead and was as close as a tie for sixth place.

However, on the back nine, he couldn't make a birdie and made bogeys at Nos. 11, 15 and 16 to fall to 6-over for the tournament.
