State parks offering many summer activities
Staff of the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation throughout the summer will be offering opportunities for people to learn new activities, get active and enjoy Utah's state parks.
Each event is limited to 10 families. Pre-registration is required. To register, visit stateparks.utah.gov or
call 800-322-3770 from outside the Salt Lake calling area or 322-3770 inside the Salt Lake calling area.
Activities include:
June 14 "I Spy" at Wasatch Mountain, Antelope Island, Dead Horse Point and Huntington state parks. Those registered will be able to watch a range of wildlife, from raptors to reptiles. They will explore the wildlife world,
learn how, when and where to look for wildlife, and identify tracks and scat. Huntington will also host a "Scorpion Quest," a night hike with blacklights in the desert.
June 27 and 28 "Happy Campers" at Jordanelle, Hyrum, Fremont Indian Park and Museum and Palisade state parks. Participants will learn about cooking in the outdoors, Dutch oven cooking, camp stoves and open fire, and learn to properly build and extinguish a fire.
June through September "Helmet Head" on June 28 at Palisade, July 19 at Jordan River OHV State Recreation Area, Aug. 2 at the Southwest Region office in Cedar City and Sept. 6 at Wasatch Mountain State Park. Learn to safely ride ATVs.
June 28 "Take a Hike" at Goblin Valley. Take a night hike in the goblins with the park naturalist.
July 12 "Ahoy" at Rockport and Utah Lake state parks. Try out a variety of water activities. Learn boating and water safety. Participants will learn the importance of wearing a life jacket and basic water safety.
July 19 "Go Fly a Kite" at Flight Park State Recreation Area Learn to fly a kite.
July 31-Aug. 2 Iron Mission State Park Museum. Iron history day camp.
Aug. 9 Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum. Limited to 10 participants at Camp Floyd Stagecoach Inn State Park Museum, Fremont Indian State Park and Museum and Territorial Statehouse State Park Museum. Discover dinosaurs, pull a pioneer handcart or climb into a kiva.
Aug. 16 "Take a Hike" at Red Fleet State Park, Willard Bay and Kodachrome Basin state parks. Walk on the wild side while learning tips for responsible hiking.
