High school association makes final decision on realignment
In a surprisingly short meeting, the board made only a few stunning moves. Cottonwood, Cyprus, Granger, Murray, West and Roy were officially moved up from 4A to 5A. Logan moved up from 3A to 4A, rejoining traditional rivals Mountain Crest and Sky View in Region 5.
Region 9 remained a mixed league with Dixie, Pine View, Snow Canyon participating as 4A schools, while Canyon View, Hurricane, Cedar and the new Desert Hills competing as 3A schools. Uintah will compete in 3A's Region 11, but will be considered a 4A school and participate in 4A state tournaments.
The promotion of West from 4A to 5A means the end of the East-West rivalry in meaningful games for the next four years. Another rivalry that won't be contested in league play is Timpview-Provo, as the Bulldogs were moved out of the T-Birds' region late in the 4A decision-making process.
The 1A and 2A classifications remained intact from the final second draft realignment proposal.
