Outdoor Notes
Utah's longest ski and snowboard season just got longer.
Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort will remain open for skiing and riding on weekends through June 15, conditions permitting.
Consistent snowfall throughout the winter provided plenty of deep powder days and has created an impressive late spring snowpack, said Bob Bonar, president.
From June 6 through 8 the tram and Little Cloud lifts will be open for skiing and riding and Mineral Basin Express will operate if conditions permit. June 13 through 15, the tram and Little Cloud lifts will be open for skiing and riding. Lifts will operate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and service advanced and expert terrain only. Additional weekend spring skiing after June 15 will be determined by weather and snow conditions.
The spring lift ticket price is $59 per day and tickets will be sold at the Snowbird Center only, accessed by Snowbird Entry 2. Snowbird is currently offering an Endless Winter Ski & Board Package that includes lodging and a lift ticket beginning at $79 per person, per night. Call 800-453-3000 for reservations.
Visit www.snowbird.com for the latest information and to see pictures of the snow-covered mountain.
PADDLE FESTIVAL
The Utah Rivers Council will hold the 11th annual Paddle Festival this weekend.
Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., those attending will have a chance to learn to paddle or try out the newest kayaks, canoes and sailboats.
Beginner paddling and sculling instruction and clinics will be available. There will also be paddle races, fly-fishing instruction, children's events, food and music.
Entry fees of $10 for those 13 and older, $6 for those 6-12 and those under 6 are free.
The festival will be held at Little Dell Reservoir. Due to Little Dell's protected status, no glass, dogs, or swimming will be allowed.
The reservoir is 15 minutes east of Salt Lake City off exit 134.
WILLARD BAY LOW
Due to repairs on the dike at Willard Bay, the reservoir is at 45 percent of capacity. Boats can launch at the north marina with approximately 6 feet of water at the boat ramp and 3 feet just outside the marina mouth. The south marina is closed to launching.
Boat docks and slips are not available. The park rescue boat is not in the water, so boaters are advised to use extreme caution and boat at their own risk.
The campgrounds and day-use areas at the north marina are open.
Camping fees are $16 for primitive sites and $25 for full hookups. Both campgrounds have restrooms with flush toilets and showers. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation anticipates completion of this project by fall 2009. For more information call 801-734-9494 or visit www.stateparks.utah.gov.
