Richfield store closed due to bogus bomb threat

The Wal-mart store in Richfield was evacuated and closed for several hours Saturday while authorities investigated what turned out to be a bogus bomb threat.

Richfield police are investigating the incident. The threat was made via telephone to a store employee about 11:30 a.m., said trooper Kelly Roberts of the Utah Highway Patrol. The caller claimed there was an explosive set to detonate in the store, or premises.

The store, parking lot, and surrounding areas were evacuated while authorities from several jurisdictions cleared the area, Roberts said. Explosive experts examined three suspicious items, but found no evidence of any explosives. The store was reopened shortly after 6:30 p.m.
