Sandy police take naked woman into custody following accident
A woman was driving along a residential street near 7600 South and 450 East about 7:15 a.m. when she collided with a man driving on the wrong side of the road. The man was reportedly looking for a lost cat and not paying attention to the road, said Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada.
The impact of the accident threw the man's car 40 feet. Both drivers suffered only minor injuries.
When the woman got out of her car, however, witnesses were surprised to find she was completely naked, Quezada said. The woman, in her 40s, was very upset with the driver she hit, got into an argument with him, and then got into his vehicle and tried to drive off in his car, Quezada said.
When she realized the vehicle couldn't move, she got back into her own car, took her keys and started walking down the road, still naked.
Most of this was witnessed by a man who had video cameras running in front of his house. He followed the naked woman.
At one point, the two crossed paths with a 14-year-old neighbor girl, Quezada said. The man who was following the naked woman told the girl to go back inside her house. She did, but the woman followed and eventually kicked open her door and entered herself, he said.
By the time the woman came out, police were in the area. She initially refused to obey their orders, but was taken into custody without further incident after officers threatened to use a Taser.
The woman was taken to Alta View Hospital for a mental evaluation.
