KINGMAN, Ariz. — The Mohave County Board of Supervisors has approved funding a library in the polygamous border town of Colorado City.

The county authorities voted 2-1 to provide public funding after a request by Friends of the Colorado City Library, a group set up to bring a public facility to the Fundamentalist LDS communities. The Mohave County Library District will take control of the facility, hiring a part-time employee.

The original library disappeared, and activists said FLDS leader Warren Jeffs had it closed. The Mohave County Library District said it had evidence of censorship, and it remains concerned about opening a new library.

The library was the idea of Stefanie Colgrove, a woman who grew up in the FLDS Church and recently moved back to raise her family in Hildale. She said a library would be a good thing for all members of the border communities.
