Utah Jazz: Hornacek a candidate in Chicago
As previously reported, ex-Jazz forward and current Jazz assistant Tyrone Corbin like Hornacek, an ex-Suns player is also a candidate in both cities.
The suburban Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported Wednesday that Corbin had been "expected to visit for an interview" Wednesday, and the Arizona Republic reported Wednesday that the Suns are "set to interview" Corbin on Friday.
The Chicago Tribune also reported Wednesday that Corbin, a former star at Chicago's DePaul University, was scheduled to interview "this week."
Both Chicago-area newspapers reported Wednesday that Hornacek will interview for the Bulls' job sometime this week, and the Republic reported Wednesday that he "will be interviewed this week by the Suns for a head- or assistant-coach job."
Hornacek has readily acknowledged interest in pursuing a full-time position in Phoenix, where he and his family reside.
The Jazz would be willing to offer Hornacek a full-time assistant coaching position to keep him from leaving, Jazz owner Larry H. Miller told KSL-TV after his team was eliminated from postseason play with last Friday night's Game 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in their NBA Western Conference semifinal series.
Corbin, a four-year Jazz assistant who also interviewed last offseason for the then-vacant head coaching position in Seattle, and Hornacek are among more than a dozen supposed candidates for the two jobs.
So is ex-Jazz point guard and current ABC/ESPN NBA broadcast analyst Mark Jackson, who was the presumed front-runner in New York before losing out there to ex-Suns coach Mike D'Antoni.
The Suns also requested permission earlier this month to interview Phil Johnson, the longtime top assistant on Jerry Sloan's Jazz staff.
Other candidates in Phoenix reportedly include Houston assistant Elston Turner, Detroit assistant Terry Porter, San Antonio Spurs assistant Mike Budenholzer, former NBA head coach Paul Silas, Suns assistant general manager Vinny Del Negro and Suns broadcast analyst Eddie Johnson.
