DICK BASS HONORED

Richard "Dick" Bass, owner and chairman of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, was inducted into the Utah Tourism Hall of Fame during the fifth annual Utah Tourism Conference.

The award recognizes individuals whose personal efforts have contributed substantially to shaping the world's perspective of the state of Utah. Bass received the honor for a career in the ski industry and has culminated with building Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort into an internationally known mountain resort.

Bass' lifelong involvement in the ski industry began in 1962 when he invested as one of the original limited partners in the Vail Ski Resort development in Colorado. Since then, he has served on the board of directors of Vail Associates Inc., assisted with Vail's development of the Beaver Creek Ski Resort under his brother, Harry Bass Jr., and owned stock in the Aspen Ski Corporation and the Alta Ski Lifts Company.

Bass began work on Snowbird in October 1969 and had the first lifts turning by December 1971. In April 1985, at age 55, Bass became the oldest person to reach the top of Mount Everest and the first to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents. His adventures are chronicled in the book he authored "Seven Summits."

JOIN CYCLING CLUB

Ski Utah has partnered with Utah Premier Cycling Club to create a recreational and competitive cycling team.

The group will consist of 100 road and mountain cycling enthusiasts. The team is open to any cyclist whether an aggressive competitor, newcomer looking to race for the first time or weekender in search of riding partners.

"This team is a great extension of the Ski Utah brand throughout the summer months," said Nathan Rafferty, president of Ski Utah. "Many cyclists are also snowriders. In many ways, the cycling community could be considered a key target market."

Ski Utah cyclists will participate in races in several states including Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, Rhode Island, and the U.S. Masters National Championships in Kentucky.

Registration to join the Ski Utah cycling team is open now through June 2. For more information on the Ski Utah cycling team or to join, visit www.SkiUtahCycling.com.
