A man who chained his girlfriend to an engine block has been sentenced to zero to five years in prison for third-degree felony assault as part of a plea bargain.

In return, a second-degree felony kidnapping charge was dismissed.

Third District Judge Randall Skanchy also ordered that Fernando Orozco-Trevizo, 32, be deported to Mexico.

Prosecutors contend Orozco-Trevizo beat and choked his girlfriend, and chained her to the engine block with a 20-foot chain and padlock to prevent her from leaving. He also covered the windows in the apartment and put in a two-way deadbolt lock that could be unlocked from the outside, but not the inside.

The woman was rescued in December, 2007, after a neighbor spotted "Call 911," which the woman had written in the condensation on a window.
