All must support the war
Your editorial "Keep the volunteer military strong" (April 27) rightly calls for vigilance in our war against world terrorism. But our all-volunteer military isn't working. We can't continue to outsource this nation's defense to a small contingent of citizenry.
Your editorial suggests there would be no shortage of volunteers if the military offered more incentives. Re-enlistment bonuses up to $60,000 are not working. Unless all of us support the war, we will likely lose it. Our nation won World War II in less than five years because everyone helped in some way to win it. Fully supported, the war in Iraq could have been over five years ago.
