HOLLADAY — Outgoing police Chief Steve DeBry was honored by city officials Thursday for his eight years of service.

DeBry and his family were given a plaque, flowers and a "Steve DeBry Drive" street sign. Teary-eyed elected officials also praised the officer and lauded his team-based leadership.

Precinct chief for four years, DeBry will be replaced today by Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Chris Bertram, who worked in the homeland security division.

Bertram will be promoted to captain and lead the Holladay precinct's 24-officer division. Also today, DeBry will take over East Millcreek's 70-officer precinct. East Millcreek and Holladay contract with the sheriff's office for law-enforcement services. DeBry, a Republican, is running against Democrat Randy Horiuchi for Salt Lake County Council. Holladay and county officials deny that the race is related to the transfer.
