U.S. founded on capitalism

In reply to Curtis Reed (Reader's Forum, May 14), it is true that the Founding Fathers never spoke against communism or socialism because neither of these existed at that time. Despite this, the form of government they set up was a democratic republic that followed the principles of capitalism. This system of government is a complete opposite to the principles of communism and socialism. Therefore, we can only expect the founders to oppose communism and socialism.
