Summer fun — Outdoor fun

Get out into the sun and explore nature as part of a multitude of outdoor activities offered along the Wasatch Front this summer.
You can celebrate an elephant's birthday, eat unique foods at the Downtown Farmers Market in Salt Lake City and watch birds at the Tracy Aviary perform tricks. Here's a quick glance at some things to do:

Utah's Hogle Zoo
What: Celebrate the birthday of Hydari, the zoo's oldest elephant, or attend a ZooCamp to learn about different animals.
Where: 2600 E. Sunnyside Ave., Salt Lake City
When: June 14, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Ages: Camps are open to children in first through seventh grade.
How much: The birthday party is free with the cost of zoo admission, while camps are $180 for members and $200 for nonmembers.

Wheeler Historic Farm

What: Tour the Wheeler family farmhouse, take a tractor-drawn wagon ride, milk a cow or participate in a day camp.
Where: 6351 S. 900 East, Salt Lake City
When: Monday through Saturday. Tours are given hourly, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and wagon rides happen every half hour. Milkings begin at 5 p.m., while camps run June 9 through Aug. 22.
Ages: Camps are for children ages 6-12. Other activities are open to all ages.
How much: Camps are $60. Prices vary for other activities.

This Is the Place Heritage Park
What: Celebrate Flag Day with live music, exhibits and breakfast. Other summer activities include day camps where children can learn to care for animals or ride a pony.
Where: 2601 E. Sunnyside Ave., Salt Lake City
When: Flag Day is June 14, while camps will be June through August. The park is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Ages: Camps are open to children ages 6-11. People of all ages can participate during Flag Day.
