Enforce manners at U. rites

I attended my grandson's graduation from the University of Utah on May 2. The ceremony left much to be desired. Even though Dean Ott requested the audience remain seated until all graduates received their diplomas, the mass exodus following each of "their" graduates by families who showed little concern for anyone but themselves was certainly obvious.

To make matters worse, the last several graduates weren't even announced due to a microphone malfunction. It probably didn't matter since it was difficult to hear anyway over the crying children who shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Here's a suggestion. Next year, reseat the graduates after they have received their diplomas and had their pictures taken. Maybe then their boorish, impolite parents and friends would stay and honor all the graduates.
