PROVO — Three people were arrested after police found drug paraphernalia and 9 mm ammunition in a baby's crib while responding on a welfare check.

Someone called police to report drug activity going on in an apartment near Franklin Elementary School at 350 S. 600 West in Provo, saying they were worried about the child, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in 4th District Court.

The officers responded and instantly noticed the smell of burnt marijuana, used marijuana and a small gun in the apartment, according to the affidavit.

One man had a warrant for his arrest and while the officer handcuffed him, he noticed a small shoebox with cash and small baggies containing a white crystal substance, according to the affidavit.

In all, police found three handguns, two of which were loaded.

In another bedroom where a woman was sleeping, police also found drugs packaged as if they were going to be distributed, including cocaine and methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.

Police also found large amounts of cash in other containers that also contained drugs, according to the affidavit.

The individuals were booked into the Utah County Jail on $3,000 cash or bond bail for investigation of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
