OREM — A Utah County man is in serious condition after suffering an electrical shock while working on a construction project Wednesday afternoon.

The 29-year-old man was working alongside a crane to move a piece of concrete into place in the area of 1200 N. 1035 West in Mapleton, said Mapleton Police Chief Dean Pettersson.

However, around 1 p.m. the crane got too close to the nearby power lines and the electricity arced through the wires, down the crane's cable and through the man's body.

Pettersson said the company owner rushed over and began CPR about the same time as the officers arrived.

The man was flown via medical helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital and was still in trauma Wednesday evening, Pettersson said.

His name was not released Wednesday night because police were still working to notify all family members, Pettersson said.
